Use a candle, match or lighter to ignite your palo santo, sage bundle or sweetgrass braid. Move the smoke about your workspace, home, car, bathroom, body or anywhere you would like to clear. Wave the smoke into all corners, across doorways and into shadow spaces, visualizing it transmuting any old, stagnant or negative energy. To enhance the experience, you may like to repeat a chosen prayer, mantra, incantation or affirmation in your mind and heart as you diffuse the smoke. Once the space is cleared, give thanks. You can open the windows and doors to let smoke (and old energy) out. Be sure to thoroughly extinguish the smudge bundle. If it's sage or sweetgrass, you can gently press it out in your heat-proof shell or container, or a bowl of sand. Palo Santo can simply be blown out, and laid in your heatproof container. Note: Sweetgrass doesn't tend to burn long - it may need to be relit frequently.
